Cinnamon Sugar Donuts

Donuts are one of the many things I learned to love in the USA.

I mean come on I used to spend a year in Massachusetts the home of Dunkin’ Donuts so I basically lived off of these sugar loaded treats. My favorite was definitely the plain sugar coated one because I’m not too much of a fan of the artificial glazes (well I guess even the plain sugar coated donut at DD is pretty artificial but whatever).

I have never made donuts myself though up until about two years ago. Back then I bought myself a donut mold so I could make a healthier version of donuts that doesn’t involve frying them up. To be honest I have used my donut mold once and then it somehow ended up all the way back in my shelf and I ignored it. Not because my first attempt wasn’t successful or anything I just completely forgot about the mere existence of donuts.

That being said a friend of mine and I were browsing though Pinterest on the search for a recipe that we could make together to bring to a vegan picnic but weren’t really happy with any of them since we didn’t wanna go on a big shopping spree to buy all the ingredients so we just picked the one we liked most and made our own version of it with ingredients we already had at home. The recipe we picked ended up being the
MINI PUMPKIN & CINNAMON SUGAR DONUTS by Aimee from Wallflower Kitchen.

But we didn’t have any pumpkin puree lying around and swapped some other ingredients too so ended up with some plain but very delicious cinnamon sugar donuts.

 

I didn’t even intend to take pictures or post the recipe but they turned out so good (and the pictures do look quite nice if I may say so) that I have to share them with you guys!

Cinnamon Sugar Donuts
These baked donuts are a healthier option to your regular fried donuts with all the flavors a good sugary donuts has to have.

Baking the donuts
  1. Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F.
  2. Mix together all of the dry ingredients.
  3. Mix all the wet ingredients and add the mixture to the dry ingredients. Whisk until well combined.
  4. Add the batter into a donut mold (greased if you're not using a silicone one).
  5. Bake for approximately 15 minutes.
  6. Let cool down completely.
  7. Once the donuts have cooled down remove them from the mold.
Coating the donuts
  1. Heat up your vegan butter. I just microwaved it for a few seconds but be careful you don't microwave it for too long so it doesn't explode (I've been there trust me).
  2. Combine the brown sugar with the cinnamon and stir well.
  3. With a brush lightly cover the whole donut with the melted butter and dip it into the sugar mixture from both sides. Slightly press the sugar onto the donuts so it stays on.
  4. Let them sit out for a few minutes so it can dry.
  5. Enjoy!
